American poet
Joyce Kilmer often paid homage to nature in his work, perhaps most famously in the 1913 poem, "
Trees," the opening verse of which is quoted in the title above. Today, trees continue to inspire: Trees offering shaded respite on a hot summer day; trees with branches swaying in a storm; trees painting the autumn landscape in bright oranges and yellows and reds; dried leaves crunching underfoot; ice covered branches sparkling in the winter sun; snow covered evergreens glistening in the moonlight. Really, it
is hard to find anything more perfect than a tree.
