Inkyspider: Textile Artist and Designer

Primordial Soup Cloth Napkins

Morgen is an amazing designer and textile artist who grew up in South Africa and now lives in Kootenays, British Columbia. The moment I saw one of her pillow case covers, I knew I had to share my excitement! She enjoys working with a variety of mixed media techniques on cotton, linen, hemp and silk. Morgen not only dyes her own fabrics, but she paints, sews, and pieces them together to create extraordinary functional art pieces. Her etsy shop, inkyspider, carries everything from housewares, wall hangings and bags, to t-shirts, hoodies and skirts. And as if you thought that was enough, she also has another etsy shop, kootsac, that sells reusable bulk food bags.

If you'd like to find out about her new endeavors, check out her blog, whatdoesthegoldenmean.

Quilts

I made scrap quilts with my grandmother years ago. Today designs in quilts come in a huge range from traditional shapes and colors to modern sleek styles. They can cover a bed, hang on a wall, or and best of all keep your lap warm on a cold night. Any home can use one of the lovely pieces of textile art today.

Member Spotlight - Quilts With Heart

My member Spotlight goes to Quilts with Heart, it was a hard choice, so many members now to chose from (500 members strong). Located in Canton, Michigan, United States, they have had their etsy shop open since Feb 15, 2008. Check out their shop, http://www.quiltswithheart.etsy.com/ for great quilts of all sizes...

Here are a few of her items...

TROPICAL PUNCH QUILT (30x40)

This quilt is perfect for the baby girl who's more than just "sugar and spice and everything nice!" A really cool baby girl. Perhaps a baby girl who's mommy loves the beach, the tropics, or just hot colors! Pinwheel block fabrics are grape vine prints on turquoise and hot pink backgrounds. Split rail block fabrics are hand dyed hot pink and lime green. Backing fabric is a pale green polka dot. Binding is hot pink and lime green leaf print. Quilted in an overall vine pattern with variegated green thread. All fabric, batting and thread is designer quality 100% cotton. Quilt is machine pieced and hand-guided machine quilted, then bound by hand. Comes with new, 12 inch "TY Beanie Buddy" lamb (Meekins) holding her own, coordinating quilt. This combo makes a great baby shower gift -- guaranteed to get oohs and aahs!

RADIATING STARS QUILT (40x40)

This stunning wall hanging or lap quilt is 40 inches square and features multiple hand-dyed cotton batik fabrics. It consists of nine 12" Radiating Stars of green, purple, blue and copper on coordinating pastel backgrounds. There is a narrow gold batik inner border, and a wider green and purple outer border that matches the quilt backing. The pieced binding echoes the colors of the nearest star block. The center of each star is quilted in a square maze pattern. All background areas are densely stipple quilted, which makes the star points really "pop out" for a 3-D effect. A variegated green thread was used in the bobbin, which blends with the backing and sometimes gives a "dotted" effect on the front to echo the batik dots. The neatest thing about the Radiating Star block is the secondary patterns that emerge when the blocks are joined together; each time you look at it you see something different!

Hope you check out her shop and let her know that you heard of her thru this blog.
