For His Office

CatamountDigitalfrom CatamountDigital

Yes, Father’s day is coming. And even if you’re not decorating for a Father, it’s a challenge to decorate a “manly” room.

garyhellerphotograh

I’ve found a great solution for the walls in his officephotography! It’s inexpensive, you can mat and frame it with a simple white mat and black frame and you have a great gift for his office!                                      from garyhellerphotograph

These are just a few of my favorites that I found, but there are many more. Click here for a search on Etsy for DesignStyleGuide photography.

Purple Rain

I only wanted 2 see u laughing in the purple rain
Purple Rain by Prince

When I think of springtime, it is rain and freshly blooming flowers that come to mind first. And one of my favorite spring flowers is lilac, both for its beautiful color as well as the intoxicating aroma.

Talented members of the Design Style Guide have used a number of media to recreate that lilac fresh ambiance so you can enjoy springtime indoors all year long.

Photographer AnnWilkinson offers a set of five spring flower photographs including this beautiful lilac. They come as 5”x 5” prints perfect for an office, den, child’s room or bathroom setting.

Ceramic artist Dorothydomingo adds a touch of purple rain to the kitchen with this set of hyacinth bowls. They’re made of speckled stoneware clay and are a perfect size for your morning cereal, luncheon soup, or an ice cream dessert.

A touch of spring elegance is found in this gorgeous glass bowl by rdgdesigns. It is made of handblown glass that was dipped in cold water and then reheated to give the exterior a beautiful alligator look.

Einstein’s E Equals MC Two is the name of an original silk painting by Mysticsilks. I love the way she has combined the geometric shapes of a left-brained scientist with the beautiful arrangement of colors by a definitely right-brained artist. It’s a stunning piece of fine art.

And for a touch of springtime whimsy, this Simple Soul Daisy Doodle Bowl entitled BLOOM by loveartworks is both a work of art as well as very functional piece of ceramic pottery. The design continues on to the bottom of the bowl, giving pleasure to everyone, including the one in charge of washing dishes!

Extend the springtime season in your home with these and other items made by the artists of the Designstyleguide.net

Good Day Sunshine

I woke this morning with the song "Good Day Sunshine" in my head and decided to see what sunny yellow items I could feature for my post today.

I love these sherbert lemon flowers from ffflowers. They are so bright and sunny. And the best part about these flowers is that they never need watering and they never wilt.

This Spring Sunshine giclee print from Karen Faulkner is so sunny. It would definitely brighten up your room! Karen Faulkner is also featured in the first Design Style Guide giveaway, which ends June 3, so hurry for a chance to win!
This Silver Copper Sunrise sun catcher from Nature's Studio would bring the warmth of the sun right into your room.

Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. I love how this Sunshine watercolor by Sagewest captures their weight and sunny disposition.

Have A Seat.

Recline in this ultra modern steel and wood Flux Chair from Eins Design. The cross between hammock and sailboat makes it the perfect place to do a little daydreaming.

On the opposite end of the design spectrum, a rustic 2-seat bench made from aspen wood and adorned with a soft cowhide-covered cushion from Shabby Sante Fe, where ma and pa can relax and watch a monsoon storm from the front porch.

Another bench seat, but this piece from Wink Art & Design is a contemporary bench made from steel and re-purposed maple from mid-century work tables. Have a seat, the bench has a story to tell.

A Handmade, Heartfelt Father's Day. Who Says Dads Can't be Sentimental?

Father's Day is less than a month away. It is always a dilemma for me to find good gifts for men, even more so when I try to keep it to a handmade, quality item. Here are some suggestions if you are looking for gifts for Dad from our fantastic artists on the Design Style Guide Team:

This beautiful card is from the shop of Creationsanew.

If Dad is always waiting for "Beer O'Clock" to roll around, you may consider giving him a humorous reminder of his favorite time of day. Take a stroll through the shop of IMOTIME for some interesting ways Dad can keep himself on schedule to do his favorite things!

Perhaps Dad is always looking for the remote? This will no longer be a problem with the Pocket Pillow from PillowThrowDecor.

Maybe your father prefers sushi to television, football and beer? Consider this lovely Superhero rice bowl from the shop of incredibly talented dbabcock.

No matter what is right for your dad, never forget the greatest gift of all. Your time. Beautifully portrayed in this photograph by MadrinPhotography.

Spring Showers

The thought of spring showers and plants conjures up images of preparing vegetable plots, flower beds etc in our gardens. At this time of year in the UK we have our annual Chelsea Flower Show. This is a spectacular and ultimate gardening show where ‘pretend’ gardens are created with various themes. During the show you can walk around gaining inspiration as well as being able to purchase plants to take home. At the end of the show the gardens are all dismantled with plants and accessories being offered for sale to the general public on the last day. Plants are also donated to local hospices, schools and charities which I think is a super idea to allow those who are not able to enjoy the wonders of this show to relish the plants beyond.

And so, my friends, I turned my attention to search for items to compliment my theme title from this amazing interior design team.

Isn’t this silk scented arrangement with mini cream roses just gorgeous?

Do visit Melrose Fields to find this and many more blooms in the most beautiful and exotic arrangements.

image

These blooms would not be out of place in the Chelsea Flower show. Note the Hula girl in the corner!

Tropical Splendor is an original oil painting by Elizabeth Graf

image

Flowers can be displayed in all manner of ways like this Watering Can Bouquet of Hydrangeas by Yankee Girl.

All that’s missing is a little butterfly but then it’s early days!

image

Friendships are like flowers - need tending to bloom by Wandering Whimsies.

Often a visit to the show is a popular activity for friends with similar interests to share. This sampler testifies to this sentiment!

image

Red Flower could be an autumnal creature or a flower that appears at any other time of year.

On A Whimsey uses her love of encaustics (wax painting) to create this beauty! ‘Well with tongue in cheek, I had to slip that one in didn’t I?’

image

…. Talking of butterflies, what about this beautiful Handmade Butterfly Feeder?

Glorious Glass Garden has more lovely feeders made from functional stained glass.

Now that you have a feel for the outdoors don’t you wish you could visit? One day!!!

Wall Decals-Easy, Affordable and Stylish

Do you ever wish you could change the look of your home? Maybe you have a wall that you have not found that perfect piece of art for. Maybe you just want to jazz things up a bit, but are not in the mood to paint an entire wall. Well, here below my friends is a perfect solution for you-wall decals! As you will see from these selections you can change any boring wall into something much more visually appealing.

The above chandelier and caged bird pieces from LeenTheGraphicsQueen's shop are so perfectly girlie that they would be the perfect addition to any bachelorette pad.

LeenTheGraphicsQueen has many other offerings here at:

rEVOLV3rApparel's shop at:

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6106603&order=&section_id=&page=3

has the above selections, plus many more. I can picture that map looking great behind a desk to update any home office. The card suites would look cool anywhere, but take down that neon sign in your game room and put up this decal and you will have an instant update.

Shanon1972's shop at:

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5720663&order=&section_id=&page=1

has the above lovelies and many more. The faux carved panels add instant interest and can be made in many different colors. The mirror with bird decals can be placed on a wall to add as a focal point and save you lots of money on furniture.

Just because the economy is bad and we may not all have plenty of cash to burn to decorate our homes, it doesn't mean that they have to cease to be stylish. Wall decals can be a great economical way to liven up our homes without breaking the bank.
